We analyzed how different types of dietary fats might influence breast cancer growth. In our study, we used athymic mice with human breast cancer cells and supplemented their diets with evening primrose oil and fish oil, while others received olive oil or a standard diet without essential fatty acids.
We found that the tumors in the mice receiving evening primrose oil were significantly smaller compared to those on a standard diet — suggesting that increasing essential fatty acids could play a beneficial role in managing breast cancer.

Evening primrose oil enhances tamoxifen
Evening Primrose Oil Enhances Tamoxifen's Anticancer Activity against Breast Cancer Cells by Inducing Apoptosis, Inhibiting Angiogenesis, and Arresting the Cell Cycle.
We explored the potential of evening primrose oil (EPO) to enhance the effects of tamoxifen—an established breast cancer treatment. In laboratory tests using human breast cancer cell lines, EPO showed promising results, working alongside tamoxifen to encourage cancer cell death and stop cell growth.
While our findings suggest that EPO can improve tamoxifen's anticancer abilities, more research is needed to fully understand its impact on breast cancer treatment in patients.

Evening primrose oil shows limited effects
Anti-inflammatory effect of combining fish oil and evening primrose oil supplementation on breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy: a randomized placebo-controlled trial.
We conducted a randomized, double-blind, controlled trial to explore the effects of fish oil and evening primrose oil (EPO) on breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Over 12 weeks, participants received either the oil supplements or a placebo.
While we noted improvements in fatty acid profiles in the treatment group, the study showed no significant changes in inflammatory markers between the two groups. Despite a decrease in IL-6 levels in the intervention group, there was no major benefit observed overall.
Ultimately, our findings suggest that while this supplementation can help with lipid metabolism, it does not deliver significant anti-inflammatory effects for breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.

This supplement is excellent, especially when combined with DIM. My breast pain before my cycle has significantly decreased. As a woman with a larger bust, the discomfort was challenging. Now, I feel much lighter and more comfortable. The menstrual cycle is back on schedule, which had been a problem previously. I’ll continue taking primrose, giving it a solid 5 stars.

Breast cancer is a type of cancer that originates in the breast tissue, most commonly in the ducts or lobules. It occurs when the cells in the breast grow uncontrollably, forming a tumor that can be detected through physical examination or mammography. Various factors contribute to the risk of developing breast cancer, including age, family history, genetic mutations, and lifestyle choices such as diet and exercise. Breast cancer can manifest in different forms, with invasive ductal carcinoma being the most prevalent type.
Treatment for breast cancer typically involves a combination of surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and hormone therapy, tailored to the specific diagnosis and stage of the disease. Early detection through regular screening can significantly improve the prognosis, as it allows for timely intervention. Advances in research and treatment have led to increased survival rates, making awareness and education about breast cancer crucial for early diagnosis and effective management.
Evening Primrose Oil is derived from the seeds of the evening primrose plant (Oenothera biennis), a native North American flowering plant known for its bright yellow blooms that open in the evening. This oil is rich in gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an omega-6 fatty acid that plays a crucial role in various bodily functions, including maintaining skin health and regulating inflammation. Due to its high GLA content, evening primrose oil is often used as a dietary supplement to assist with a variety of health concerns, such as symptoms associated with premenstrual syndrome (PMS), menopause, and conditions that involve inflammation like eczema.
In addition to its potential health benefits when taken in supplement form, many users also apply evening primrose oil topically to help improve skin health, reduce dryness, and soothe irritations. While some research supports its benefits, results can vary, and it’s always recommended to consult with a healthcare professional before adding any new supplement to your routine. Overall, evening primrose oil is celebrated for its versatility as both a dietary and topical addition, making it a popular choice among those seeking natural wellness options.
Based on user reviews, the time it takes to see results from evening primrose oil varies among individuals, but many report seeing improvements within a short time frame. Some users have noted substantial relief from symptoms like breast pain after just one week of use (Read Review), while others have experienced normalization of their menstrual cycle within a month (Read Review). This variation suggests that while some may experience quick relief, it could take longer for others, especially if used for specific conditions like breast cancer.
Additionally, several users mentioned that maintaining consistent usage is crucial for achieving the desired effects. For instance, one individual with fibrocystic breast disease noted effective results after three weeks of supplementation (Read Review), indicating that regular intake over a period may be necessary for optimal benefits. Overall, while user experiences vary, many recommend patience and consistency when taking evening primrose oil to address symptoms related to breast health.
While there is some emerging evidence surrounding the use of Evening Primrose Oil (EPO) in the context of breast cancer treatment, the findings are not fully conclusive. In a controlled trial examining EPO and fish oil for breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, the study reported improvements in fatty acid profiles, but did not observe significant anti-inflammatory effects or overall benefits from the supplementation [1]. Conversely, laboratory tests indicated that EPO could potentially enhance the anticancer effects of tamoxifen, leading to increased cancer cell death and inhibited growth in breast cancer cell lines [2].
Additionally, research involving mice models demonstrated that tumors in those supplemented with evening primrose oil were notably smaller compared to those on a standard diet, suggesting that EPO might offer some advantage in the management of breast cancer growth [3]. However, despite these promising avenues, further investigation is necessary to translate these findings into clinical practice. Therefore, while EPO shows potential, its use as a supportive treatment for breast cancer remains an area warranting more rigorous research.
Based on user reviews, many individuals have reported significant improvements in a variety of symptoms attributed to evening primrose oil. For instance, users experiencing breast pain and discomfort associated with conditions like mastopathy and PMS indicated notable relief within a remarkably short duration—some mentioned reduced pain after just a week of use (Read Review, Read Review, Read Review, Read Review). Users noted that evening primrose oil not only alleviated breast tenderness but also contributed to hormonal balance, aiding in the regularization of menstrual cycles and reducing other PMS symptoms like cramping and mood swings (Read Review, Read Review).
Additionally, some users praised the supplement for its broad applications, citing improvements in symptoms related to menopause, such as hot flashes and general hormonal disorders. They also mentioned benefits for skin health and even libido enhancements (Read Review, Read Review). However, it's important to note that individual results can vary greatly; while many have found success, there are also reports of adverse reactions, including worsening conditions and side effects (Read Review, Read Review). Thus, a cautious approach is advised when considering this supplement.
Based on user reviews, many individuals have reported positive outcomes when combining evening primrose oil with other supplements for managing breast cancer and related symptoms. For example, one user noted that taking evening primrose oil alongside DIM significantly reduced breast pain associated with their menstrual cycle, contributing to a greater sense of comfort (Read Review). Additionally, another user mentioned pairing evening primrose oil with vitamin E, which they found effective in alleviating cyst-related discomfort and reported improved symptoms overall (Read Review).
Furthermore, several users emphasized the supplement's ability to alleviate PMS symptoms and improve hormonal balance, suggesting that its combination with omega-3 and vitamin D3 may enhance its effectiveness (Read Review). Overall, the consensus among users is that evening primrose oil can be a valuable addition to a supplement regimen, especially when used alongside other supportive supplements, to address symptoms related to breast health and hormonal imbalances.
Based on user reviews, the right dosage of Evening Primrose Oil (EPO) for treating breast-related conditions, including breast cancer, seems to vary among individuals. One user reported a positive experience after starting with a dosage of 1300 mg, stating that it significantly decreased her painful symptoms Read Review. Another user highlighted that after just a week of use, they experienced remarkable relief from breast pain, suggesting that even lower doses can be effective Read Review.
However, users have also expressed varying responses to EPO, with some experiencing side effects, including severe ovarian cysts which led them to discontinue use Read Review. While many users report benefits such as reduced breast pain and improved menstrual cycles Read ReviewRead Review, it is crucial for individuals to tailor the dosage according to their specific health needs and to consult with healthcare professionals for personalized guidance.

At 45, I suffered from mastopathy and endometriosis. Unfortunately, evening primrose oil led to severe ovarian cysts, breast pain, and a disrupted cycle. I've gained weight and now have to address these issues. While many report positive effects, my experience was contrary. I took the entire bottle but had to stop due to these side effects. If you notice something wrong, it's wise to discontinue use rather than waiting for improvement.
